Title: Spring Build entry 1/29th Scale X-Wing (Modified)
Post by: khitomer on February 28, 2014, 03:24:29 pm
My entry for the spring build. Revell 1/29th scale X-Wing Ezy Kit. I'm going to strip off the pre-painted areas, try and improve the detail on the kit and light. Might also do a diorama dependent upon time.

Awesome choice!  I will love to see the improvements that you put on it.  I wish you fun and success with the build and the contest!   8)

I don't understand this requirement about date?! The exif data within the image indicates when it was taken. Any professional photographer (my job) knows this. I've taken the picture of the unopened bags of parts in front of the box. I've never seen this requirement on any other forum group build that I've been involved with.
Title: Re: Spring Build entry
Post by: dlots1701a on February 28, 2014, 03:34:43 pm
it is a requirement to post a date timestamp to enter the Contest "All builds must not have been started before March 1st 2014. This will require a photo submitted with a cell phone date or other such device to verify along with the unopened contents of the kit in the picture."

I'll have to do a trial on the paint removal, they've done a reasonable job on the 'weathering' but it's all a bit manufactured. I'll try and post some pics of the detail before I begin.

respectable group build!  ;)
Nice one Liam!!  Good luck with your build up!  :)

I've used Fairy Power in the past, works really well on enamel Bill. But I'll try a test piece first in case of any reactions.

Hey bud.....    the 1/29 scale jumped out at me....  and then someone writing this thing was 30 inches long.....    never heard of an X-Wing that big....

Box top says it's about 17 inches though....    which is still cool.....   best of luck in the competition!

435mm = 17 inches.

Still pretty cool. Bigger than the one I have.

In case you all think I forgot about the Spring build! Still finishing my SPAD XIII for a WW1 group build elsewhere but managed to make a small ;) start on the X-Wing tonight

R2 is light blocked and optical fibres fitted.

Won't get fully into the build until the weekend I think.

Finally got some time back in the saddle today, still feeling ropey but got a start made. I'm replacing the guns with aluminium and brass tubes retaining only the curved plastic piece. I'm hoping to use optical fibre for these too. Lots and lots to do.

Drill out plastic piece.

Very nice indeed Liam! Wish I'd thought of putting fibre optics into my Viper cannons... I also like the way you've hidden the wiring "in plain sight" as part of the plumbing for the engines.  :)

If you are getting close concentrate on the model Liam. We aren't judging the bases unless it's being built as a diorama.

Thanks Boyd, I was worried it wouldn't count in the finished category without the base. Not a diorama just a representation of the Deathstar below which I'll add at a later date. Should get her finished over next couple of days.

Nicely done Liam, way to go. Don't forget to post your pics in the completed contest models thread in the Members gallery.

Shoot it in good light from all angles as we'll be using the pics on that thread for the judging.

No need of beauty shots just good clear close ups.

Good luck and thanks for joining in on our Spring Build.

Thanks Boyd. I've posted these shots in the gallery, I'd like to add better images but I won't be able to post them until Tuesday the 3rd of June as I'm away until then, will this be OK?
