Title: Power supply
Post by: model maker on July 16, 2017, 12:11:49 am
I have a quick question for Boyd, I'm just getting started back into modeling now that I have retired from my previous occupation and I have been watching all your videos and some of the other guys as well, but my question is what is the name of the site you used for your power supply ?

Cheapest place I've found to grab various power supply (wall-warts) is your local thrift stores....  If you can still read the sticker then you know what you're getting.

I think what you're referring to is the desktop power supply that Boyd uses to test circuits and lighting rigs, right? I found a 3-month old video which showed he recently replaced his older YiHua unit with an unbranded one. His old one looked like it had a coating of primer all over it.☺  I seem to remember he said during one of the Sunday night live streaming shows that he got it off of eBay for around $40/free shipping. Here's a link to one that caught my eye, and it's shipped from the US so the wait time should be minimal, unlike China, which I swear uses the mythical 'slow boat' to ship to the US.

Or just do a search for DC Digital Power Supply and you should get a variety of choices. Hope this helps.

While it may not be "just like Boyd's" there are plenty of tutorials out there that show you how to convert a Desktop PC P/S into a Bench power supply.

This one looked decent, but is just an example of several out there. I use a converted PC P/S for my burn-ins.

An electronically gifted friend on mine used a white paper to make the one I am using. It might be helpful instead of Evil-bay. PM me and I might be able to send it to you for a looky loo!

LLAP!

I bought my DC variable power supply off Amazon.  I think it was about $35.
If you search amazon, you will see power supplies that look just like what Boyd is using.
If you are talking about a DC wall wart, check out hdamodelworx.com.
His prices are reasonable.

That power supply should do nicely! The bench I've thought about several times, but TBH, my problem isn't bench space, it's where to keep all the stuff when I'm not using it.  :)
