Title: Positionable Mounting Post
Post by: whb64 on September 21, 2017, 08:47:36 am
Anyone know where to buy a positionable base post?

I have a BSG viper kit and I would like to display it on an angle.

Anyone know where to buy a positionable base post?

Some people use brass lamp swivel sockets such as this one:

They provide limited but decent enough degree of movement for most needs, and they should last because of they are made of metal.

If you need something that provides a wider range of movement, you might consider something like a gooseneck mount.

That looks perfect.  I'll have to check Lowes or Home Depot and see if they have them.

I also found this...

I think I can modify that to hide some wires.  This wouldn't be for a large ship, I am looking for something for some Vipers, Cylon Raiders, and the Star Trek Nemesis Scorpion.

whb64, that looks like a Gundam mount. You are correct in that it may only hold smaller models. But I believe there are different sizes of those Gundam mounts for the different sizes of Gundam models that could be used for heavier models.

I have used brass tubing to dramatically mount a 650 model before with some success. I used gorilla glue to mount it and a specialized bending tool to form the brass rod. It is static (doesn't meet your positionalble critieria) once it is mounted, but if that is what you are going for then here is a thought.

Here's a pic. Hope this gives you some ideas.

I bought a really cheap 'gooseneck' lamp then cut off the flexible bit for my defiant. Secured it with epoxy glue.

Nice!  Thanks.  I'm thinking of doing something similar with the Maquis Raider.  Thanks again!
