Title: [Polar Lights Star Trek Discovery Kits] Coming In 2019 And Asking For Feebback
Post by: Gadgetron_3000 on June 03, 2018, 09:17:16 am
Hi, Everyone!

WonderFest 2018 is happening this weekend (6/2/18 to 6/3/18) and Round 2 is there with a huge surprise...and it's one that they want feedback on.

So...they have the rights to Star Trek: Discovery...and they want to make the following kits starting sometime in 2019 under the Polar Lights label in 1:2500 scale:

The question they are asking fans, though, is what scale should they be in a larger scale:  1:1000 or 1:1400?  Sizes would be as follows:

For the larger scale, they plan on releasing light effects kits and decal sets for those models as well.

Round 2 is currently asking attendees of WonderFest 2018, but I'm sure they will open it up on their blog and Facebook pages soon (probably next week).

If you wanted to send direct email, Jamie Hood's work email address seems to be jhood@round2corp.com, if you want to drop him your opinions.  He is the brand manager, senior designer, and product developer for all things sci-fi at Round 2.

I'm pretty sure most of you will end up saying..."the bigger, the better!"  :D

In any case, great news!

Check out the attached picture from PixelMagic.

Stay tuned...

:)

I'm a bit mixed on these.  While as Gadget said "bigger is better" I don't think much of a large Discovery. *dodges empty beer bottles thrown at his head* there isn't a whole lot of detail to warrant a large kit... unless you look at bridge and shuttle bay... and maybe that spinning section when they spool up the spore drive.   The Shenzou and big E would probably warrant a large kit.

I am mixed/splt...  I just wish they would settle into a scale across the board that's the same.  Half the old kits are 1000 and the rest are 1400.  I want a fleet that's all the same scale and not the tiny 2500 scale.

That said, these scales seem rather big don't they?  It just doesn't seem to match the existing ships of the original timeline (after all they still maintain this is the original timeline)

U.S.S. Shenzhou NCC-1227: 1:1000 = 16.7 inches    everything else 1400

A lot of the old Next Gen kit types are 1:1400 scale (approximately; it's more a "box scale" thing, ie, what scale will fit the box size). Earlier kits were a little more all over the map. It looks like they've been really working on standardizing to sizes of late for new kits, specifically to 1:1000, 1:2500 or 1:350 (for the premium kits), except for the repops. Excelsior/Ent B was the earliest kit I know of that was (close to) 1:1000 scale (pre Polar Lights). 1:2500 is approximately the scale for the Three Enterprises (TOS, TMP, TNG) and the Adversary Set (Ferengi, BOP, Romulan TNG), and it looked like it was easy enough to continue with that as a scale for weekend build sorts, and they don't look terribly out of scale paired up with the Deep Space Nine model kit.
