Nice! Are you working off a schematic from the show, or just making it up yourself?

Thank you, modelerdave!
First comment, this is special!
The references are of the show with several adjustments, because the show's scenario does not match with the AMT model especially in the access doors of the ship.
The next posts will show you why.

And, yes hand made from scratch!
I had to find out all the measurements, comparing with the height of the actors, shoulder width, etc., to find out the correct measurements

One of the difficulties (the first) I found: the ship's floor.
I had to sanding enough to level it. the photo does not show, but I used a piece of styrene to close the gaps. The external detailing was not compromised.

Are you building this as a cutaway, or will you have a hatch open to see the interior?

I am planning the two possibilities together but at the moment: removable back windows and front right access door.
In this case, various adjustments will be necessary. I'll show you later. :)

Next step: adjustments to crew cabin windows. In the episode "timescape" they has 90 degrees angle! and has some distance to the back windows. Imcompatible with the studio model. So what to do? like a BORG: Adapt!
I opted to close the last window and open another, in the position of the scenario, but maintaining the angle. this forced the reduction of the 'lateral sensor grid' (?); easy to fix.

Working the back windows of the ship, but as you can see, is very thick.
Do it again!

Corrections done. I took the time to cut the back part very carefully (it was better to correct the previous error and prepare the ceiling fitting) that will be detachable for viewing. It looks more like the scenery now, I guess.

Nice work with the windows. Are you going to fill them with something (like clear styrene) or leave them open?
Title: Re: RUNABOUT INTERIOR PROJECT
Post by: PCabral on December 02, 2018, 10:11:58 am
Yes, I am choosing the most transparent and undistorted as possible

Post by: PCabral on December 02, 2018, 11:05:55 am
...parallel to this i'm cover the bulkheads of the crew area walls, and place(temporatelly) the computer console.
The idea is to be transparent to lightly light. the strip on the wall too. in more some days i will  show the closement of the wall base  and its fit with the back window.

More progress on the walls, and the beginning of the bedroom area and the access tower ...
Title: Re: RUNABOUT INTERIOR PROJECT

...and Jefferies tube.
Title: Re: RUNABOUT INTERIOR PROJECT

I used the imagination for this part (because it has no official description of it)
based on the DS9 episode "blaze of glory" where captain cisco enters the jefferies tube.
Remember, many adjustments will still be made. These are not the definitive pieces.
hard work! :)

Will the hull open up to show all this detail?

Thanks for asking.
Yes I am testing some possibilities. Two are defined: opening the back windows of the ship, as seen in the photos posted, and the opening one of the access doors.
I have another idea, but it is complex and would involve the use of a mechanical gear to open part of the ship (very difficult to perform with small moving parts)

ok, more progress!
Testing the position of the pieces of the front of the ship now, and comparing with the references used in the project.
Many cuts, scraping and sanding at this step before gluing.

More adjustments and positioning of parts. the ceiling was made in 0.05mm sheet, and with the manipulation ended up breaking
and it was necessary to redo with a thickness of 1mm

This will be the new ceiling. it will be removable and with a stronger structure, as I had commented before.
The previous one broke twice. :'(

I was scrolling through your pics and saw your clamps in the thumbnail. Due to it's color, my first thought was "Why is he using a rubber chicken to clamp that part open?!"

This is why you shouldn't read build threads on just a little coffee! :D

Keep going! I'm really loving the detail you are putting into this build.

Grill intake detail. Is this the correct name?

It doesn't matter!

Grill intake detail - intake manifold - it is whatever you want to call it! :)

They look good! Is that a PE part or just some wire mesh you had lying around?

Keep at it!

It is a metal grille from an old water filter. Non-rusty, flexible, resistant and easy to cut.
