Revell TOS Battlestar Galactica Cylon Raider
« on: August 14, 2012, 12:56:54 am »
Another oldie but goodie...Revell Cylon Raider from the original series Battlestar Galactica.
The first thing I knew I wanted to modify was the stock cockpit.  The louvers are one solid piece; I want to light the cockpit so I decided to cut out all the solid mass and create real louvers.

I used some clear plastic to make the window and airbrushed the inside of it blue.

Next...the cannons had a similar issue.  The stock cannons are solid and I wanted to fire them up so I cut them apart and used some hollow tube styrene to recreate them. I can now run fiber optics through them to light them up!
I got a lot of tattooing to do this week so it will be a while before this is back on the bench...more to come...

Sweeet! Some classic BSG. The slotted windows are going to make that model look much better.
Looking forward to watching the progress.

Needed to cover the engine cover ports with sheet styrene on top of hull and inside.

Cannon fits well with fiber optic.  Cut open canopy hull for lighting.

As always paint interior black to prevent light leaks.  Due to multi colors and layers this was painted in sub sections; very plain now...I'll add a bit of weathering at the end of the construction.

Cut the tops off two blue LEDs to saturate light; taped them to a piece of cardboard for lighting panel.
Installed panel with black electric tape...passed another light leak test!

Final wiring complete. Passed final light test. Glued and clamped. I'm going to leave those clamps on and not touch this for a few days.
I'll post again after the clamps come off...

Fantastic work on this Zulu! I didn't know that the original kit's cockpit was solid like that.Such great memories of the old show.
For the fun of building art.
