Polar Lights 1/1000 TOS 2nd Pilot Enterprise
« on: May 15, 2013, 03:51:41 pm »
Here's a model I built a while ago.  This is the Polar Lights 1/1000 TOS Enterprise kit build as the 2nd Pilot Version.

It's painted with Tamiya XF-12 JN Grey with 25% flat white added to lighten the color.  The nacelle domes and deflector dish are painted with Testors MM Acryl Rust with a few drops of clear red added.  The end cap grills are decals.

That's gorgeous! I'm actually building this very kit also as the 2nd pilot. I've got to kick it up a notch for it to look this good. Awesome job man!
Marty McFly: Wait a minute, Doc. Ah... Are you telling me that you built a time machine... out of a DeLorean?
Dr. Emmett Brown: The way I see it Marty, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style!?

I like your version of this one! Just love these "little E"s :) Did you do the weathering yourself?

Thanks guys for all the nice comments!  :)

Mr Atoz, I did the weathering with pastel chalks and used pictures of the 2nd Pilot E as reference.  The weathering actually shows a bit more in person, the lighting washed it out a bit.

Mike.

It's beautiful and VERY accurate right down to the dorsal. My big 350 2nd pilot I have posted here is missing details you got right. Congrats!

Thanks for the compliments!

One detail I left out is the blue dorsal.  While the blue dorsal is a noticeable feature on the 1st Pilot Enterprise I don't feel it's really apparent on the 2nd Pilot E.  The dorsal on the 2nd Pilot E doesn't show blue in the episodes, to me anyway.  Also at this small scale it probably wouldn't be seen so I left that out.

Looks great! That is a really nice little model kit. You did it justice for sure and thanks for sharing it in our gallery. :)
If It's a model kit, I like it already.

I never get tired of seeing this build Mike. I don't know if I've said this but to this day those bussards are the most accurate pilot versions I've ever seen. I sometimes think about buying those exact testors paints you used (I only use Tamiya) just to get that look.

Mines still half done!  :o

Thanks everyone for all the nice comments!

Scott,  The Pilot Bussard domes never looked 'red' to me on TV and in pictures I've seen.  They seem to have a red-brown look to them.  Testors Acryl Rust looks very close.  I used a few drops of clear red because that's the only red I had on hand at the time.  I'll stick with this paint combination for the Bussard Domes on any future Pilot versions I build.  I also applied some black pastel chalk over the bussard domes to match the studio model but it doesn't show too well in these pictures.
