Jumping on the Orion III band wagon
« on: September 22, 2013, 05:32:15 pm »
I've been seeing all these great build of this little ship and I said, "Yes, YES! I want to drink the Orion III Kool aid!" So I went to my LHS and slapped down my hard earned greens and blues (Canadian currency) and started plugging away at it,

I was a little surprised by the number of sink marks,

...and then I decided to light it! Here you can see the battery contacts in the main fuselage,

A quick light test for the engine exahusts,

which are a couple of amber 0740 LEDs soldered together in series and hot glued to a backing piece for the exhausts

I like this pic, the engines look surprised!

closeup.

The details are glued onto a piece of clear styrene and this is backed with a bit of styrene tube

I know these details should be scribed and not raised but this was a last minute decision, plus this isn't going to be from the 2001 universe  ;)

engine compartment fitted together,

Found more sink marks, the oval is the Moebius models logo on the inside

unfortunately this is where I had to stop, as I had to go to sea! :P

Oh well, it's a good start nonetheless!

Beautiful work!

Fair winds and following seas, shipmate.  Just sent my middle son off to Navy bootcamp yesterday.  I'm a proud sailor. :)

Always a pleasure to meet another sailor!

So the model has been on a bit of a hiatus while I've been at sea on an FNO (Fleet Navigation Officer) course, not good for model building, but great for scenery!

But when I got home I had this waiting from our very own HDA:

and now for the spoiler,

I'm making my Clipper a part of the BSG 'verse!

Yes, that is beautiful scenery.  I do miss being at sea/underway.  Where were those pics taken, if I may ask?

Those are some beautiful decals!  HDA does amazing work. :)

We spent the majority of our time in the passages between Vancouver Island and the mainland, with port visits to Seattle, Nanoose bay and Vancouver.

We even had some company;

I thought that looked a bit familiar.  I was stationed at Whidbey Is. NAS for a few years in the early 90's.  Loved that area.  Vancouver is beautiful.
