Just listening to some of the ideas you were tossing around while thinking out loud tells me that this is going to be another ace project Boyd.  And I am sure, as always, I will be picking up some great tips and tricks!  I wish you fun and succes (and enough time) with the build and the contest!   8)
That model really tied the room together.

Now you know we want that alien landscaped base with Will and that wacky robot...or the girls in swim suites running around under the hovering ship.

Lets not forget Dr. Smith, Joe Boss. I've been wanting this model since it came out so I'm going to love following this one. Now you will have built from 3 outta 5 of my favorite scifi as a kid. All yur missing is a Space 1999 build and UFO (or U....Fo as the Brits pronounced)

Boyd, totally looking forward to your build, as always! That's a cool kit as well! I've been eyeballing the classic saucer types for a while, and I'm interested to see what is in store for paint magic from the man! ;D

Fist update on the Jupiter 2 build.

I started on the navigation console by lighting and assembling the computer readouts at the top of the station. I used a combination of warm white and standard white SMD's to light them which will be hooked up to a sequencer board to give some random on/off lighting effects.

The original panels were cut out and replaced with the Paragrfix photo etched parts. Then the decals were over laid on those after painting.
I used some small strips of styrene placed over the SMD's to diffuse the light behind the panels and make it look more in scale.

Next I'll be painting the entire console and adding in the lower lighted readouts. I'm working out a way to possibly motorize the radar screens
and get them to revolve using some small motors. Will see how that goes.
