Update:  Airbrushing at a beginner's level.  (Or:  Oh, I hope I don't screw this up!)

Today, 4-19-14, marks the very first time I've applied paint to a model, using an airbrush.  Surprisingly enough, it went pretty well!  I didn't need one of these at all.

After seeing some wonderful work done by Wolf-359, I'd decided to use a Tamiya flat aluminum for the base hull color.  I couldn't be happier with the results, and it laid down on the model beautifully.  Again, I'm very pleased with how this all turned out.  I'm hoping to have the same kind of success with the lighting and fiber-optics.

More to come.

Thank you, Wolf.  And, thanks for showing me that color.  It's absolutely perfect!

Update:  More Airbrushing!  (Or: Rob's addicted to success!)

So, more airbrushing today, and with a few different colors.

So, today's first task was to mate up the upper and lower bow sections to their respective center-hull segments, to facilitate finishing the base-hull color.  The start of the assembly!

Next, I applied Tamiya Clear Blue to the engine lenses, and it came out grand.

I decided to use Tamiya's gun-metal color for the bow inserts, so that the overall metalic sheen doesn't get altered.  However, since these sections appear darker in the show, the gun-metal was just about perfect for the job.

And, finally, I used a simple matte gray for the trench-inserts for the bow, as well as the flight pods.

Bow trench...

And, a flight-pod trench.

More to come...

Rob, I have to ask. Is that Master G22 airbrush in the background of the 1st photo in your last post the one you're using to do your painting? Reason I ask is I have yet to try mine out, mostly because it's been to cold too do anything here (basement isn't properly ventilated) recently, and I'm also not quite to a paint stage yet on my project. Like you were before, I've never airbrushed before, and I bought the Master set because of the price. It seems that so far you're happy with the results.

Yes, sir, that is, indeed, the G22.  So far, it's been a great tool for applying the paint, and it's also something of a miracle worker, making me look like I know what I'm doing.

You made a good investment, methinks.

Thanks Rob. I'm looking forward to giving it a try, maybe next weekend, if the weather here holds that long. I really like the look of the Tamiya flat aluminum you used on the Pegasus hull. Been trying to find a color I liked for my Polar Lights Jupiter 2 hull, and I think the flat aluminum might just fit the bill. Good luck going forward. Looks your having fun.

Thank you for all the kind words and great encouragement!

And, now...

Update:  The assembly begins!  (Or:  It's about damn time!)

Today, we have just a few pics.  Last night, after letting the paint dry for a good while, I got the itch to do some late-night workshop hustlin', so I ended up taking the bow inserts off their tree, and gluing them in place.  While this might not be conducive to using a rattle-can black to light block the interior of the model, I really don't mind, because it allows me more time with my new favorite toy, the AIRBRUSH!!

(Duh duh DUUUUHHHHH!)   <--- Dramatic musical cue.

First, a shot of the upper bow, with it's inserts.  I'm loving how the gun-metal works against the flat aluminum.

And, now, a side-on shot of the bow.

And, ust for giggles, let's see a sneak peek of the base, along with the not-nearly-assembled model, to see a glimpse of what the final presentation will be like.

More to come...
