Well, Wolfy, I'm glad you asked!

I have been filling the bottom saucer as an experiment.  It's actually turning out better than expected.

Here's the saucer fully puttied and sanded with a light coat of primer.  It is fairly smooth, though not completely perfect.  I may leave the slight imperfections to give it some mild depth.

Here's a closer view of the saucer.  You can see that most of the brickwork is gone.

fill/sand all of this.  My hat is off to you Sir!
 :)
Ooooooo!  I think I may buy that kit!

Yeah, it's a ton of work, but it's working!  Maybe this thing will look decent after all?

Matt, this is looking great man!  I know that you had to put in some work to even get it to this stage, but sheesh, it is looking fantastic already.  If you make quick work of the pylons, I am going to say that you need to redo the title of this thread; turd it is not!   ;)
That model really tied the room together.

Seems to be the ticket to putty in the raised detail.  Methinks you'll pull this one off.  :)

Ah, turd polishing at its best!

Lots of elbow grease needed for this one!

Yes indeed!  I think I'm building up new muscle!

I had drilled out the new window ports on the saucer windows and filled the old ones.  I also glued them into the saucer:

I also drilled out all the windows and started working on the arboretum.  The windows on this kit don't exist, though they are marked.  I cut them out and made frames out of strip styrene:

Go forth, my friend, and polish, polish, polish!!!  You are already off to a great start!  You know, from our conversations, how much I am looking forward to seeing this.  The refit in any form is always my first love and I really do love the 537 even with all its issues!  Can't wait to see more!
