1/350 Refit Nacelle help needed
« on: December 09, 2016, 09:25:06 pm »
Help me Scotty or all you other starfleet engineers!

The nacelles, after being wired, were sealed and glued to the pylons. I mask taped the nacelles while I painted and decaled the pylons with the PL Aztec decals. I then removed the masking tape from the nacelles so I could start painting and decaling them. I found to my horror that I had somehow pushed the inboard warp grills into the nacelles. Does anyone know a trick that I can use to pull the grills back into place and re-glue them so I can carry on? Other than cracking open the nacelles that is.

Thanks, Michael

Never tried it but could you attach some double sided tape to the grill then stick a piece of tube to the tape and pull it back?

Thanks Warrn, I'll give that a try later on today and let you know. Michael

Is your aft cap glued in yet? If not, you might be able to fish in from there with a styrene tube to push the grill back into place. If it is glued, is it lightly enough you could crack the seal and still get it off without breaking the long seams?

Unfortunately Lynn, the nacelle is all sealed up. If I had only thought of keeping the cap loose then beggars would be riding. LOL

Michael, I think Lynn in Denver is on to something.  You could use a fine tooth saw blade and cut off the nacelle aft cap as she described.  You could also use a sanding wheel as a thin blade cutter.  You won't lose much plastic that way and should be able to fish out the warp grill with a pair of long tweezers, or double sided tape on the end of a popsicle stick.

Good luck!
