Hi, Everyone!

I recently spent some time 3D modeling for printing some parts for the Polar Lights / Round 2 1:350 TOS Enterprise.  Here is what I created:

=====

Bussard Fan Assembly - Alternative Replacement Part - this is an alternative replacement for the Polar Lights / Round 2 clear part

  • Near-exact measurements and shape to the original part.
  • Single piece part.  No need to put it together.
  • Stem fits 3mm diameter motor shafts similar to the original part*.  You supply the 3mm diameter shaft motor(s).
  • Easier to paint than the original part.  No masking required.  (Please research the do's-and-don't's of cleaning, prepping, and painting 3D printed parts and materials before attempting to do so.)
  • Provides a unique look for the Bussard Collector assembly.
  • Works with original LED mounting plate and original outer dome.

* NOTE: the inner diameter of the original part stem starts at 3mm.  Then after going in about 2.85mm, its inner diameter changes to 2mm.  This allows the 2mm diameter plastic shaft of the Round 2 motors (supplied with their light kit accessory pack - product number MKA007) to fit into the original clear parts.  Therefore, this alternative replacement part does not properly fit the Round 2 MKA007 motors unless those motor shafts are re-enforced to make them a bit thicker.

=====

Bussard Fan Assembly - Direct Replacement Part - this is a direct replacement for the Polar Lights / Round 2 clear part

  • Near-exact measurements and shape to the original part.
  • Single piece part.  No need to put it together.
  • Stem fits 2mm diameter motor shafts similar to the original part.  You supply the 2mm diameter shaft motor(s).

=====

LED Mounting Disc - Alternative Replacement Part - this is an optional alternative replacement for the Polar Lights / Round 2 part

  • Near-exact measurements and shape to the original part.  Diameter and thickness are just about perfectly sized.  Even the the small indent for the outer dome location tab is modeled in.
  • Fifteen 2mm holes allow for increased number of lights (5 constant-on and 10 random blinking are suggested) compared to the Polar Lights / Round 2 part (which allows for ten lights - 5 constant-on and 5 random blinking).  You supply the electronics setup.
  • Experiment away!  Use LEDs, SMDs, fiber optics, Arduino boards, etc..  There are lots of possibilities!

=====

I had the parts sent to printing service Shapeways.  I'm very happy with how nice the parts came out!  Check out the pictures and YouTube video links below!

And now - for a limited time - I would like to offer everyone in this community the chance to get these parts through Shapeways with no additional markup by me.  You would only pay for Shapeway's material and labor costs.  I'll have this offer starting now and will keep it going for one week.  Just follow the links above where there is more information, pictures, demonstration videos, and order information.

I hope these parts are of use to and are helpful for those who are or will be building the 1:350 TOS Enterprise.  The model kit is a great one, and all of us put our own unique touches to our builds, so I just wanted to contribute creatively.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Enjoy!  :)

Thanks for making this. I damaged the inner spinning dome taking in and out while developing our lighting system. After seeing your share on google + I went to Shapeway and ordered a couple of these.

Thanks again

I'm glad the parts can help you out.  Hopefully the stem section of the Shapeways material you ordered with is more durable than the brittle clear styrene original part.  I made my test print with their  "Frosted Extreme Detail" plastic material, and the stem will definitely last longer than the original part.

This is fantastic work!!! Is there any way I can buy just the .stl files from you.  I have my own 3D printer and I would love to print these for my 1/350.

Thanks,
-Bill

Please do, and I hope they work out for you.

At this time, I still haven't added any markup to the parts pricing so order away, if you like.

I use the N20 DC motor that I posted about here:

Hope this helps.

Nice little motors for the price. Had a pair that ended up in a jjprise and another on the way for my 350 build.  Also a couple pairs of bussed replacments
