Very nice!
I had one of those kits when I was a kid. I got it all put together looking good and decided to glue tin foil to the legs and around the lower half for a more authentic look.
It looked great when I got it done. Came back the next day to discover that the modelers glue very effectively melted all four legs! Of course it produced heat as it dried that had nowhere to go with the tin foil keeping it in.  :(

Never did that again!

Glad yours turned out better!  ;)

Thanks :)  I used rubber cement to attach the foil.

Star!

Very nice job, here! From the module itself, to the foil on the ship to the astronauts taking a stroll, this is an awesome build!

Was this a commission or a personal build?

Beautiful job!

You know, according to some conspiracy theorists, the landing never happened, so you could possibly post this in the sci-fi section, depending on one's views.  ;)  Nice job regardless.

Thank you, Steve!  This was a personal build.  I got a hold of this kit at a swap late last year.  It had been sitting in someone's closet for 44 years.   :o

The kit astronauts weren't realistic (the design was based on prototype Apollo suits) so I went to shapeways for replacements.  Also picked up replacement aftermarket decals since I figured the production ones wouldnt be good anymore (It turned out that Rick Sternbach designed the aftermarket decals!)

Nice!  And now I know where to post my Saturn V when it gets built!

LOL ...yup that sounds about right! I bet I build exactly the same kit way back then. I thought the base and everything looked awefully familiar ..  ;D

I was absolutely fascinated by the early moon landings. I collected all the newspaper clippings as they happened (I still have them!). I built this kit and I got a 4 foot high Saturn 5 kit when we visited the Kennedy Space Centre. I wish I had the skills then that you have now to do them!

I'd love to have another go at it....

I did a similar kit, but I think it was a smaller scale, and it had both the Lander on a 'moonscape' and the Command Module attached to an arcing support arm above the Lander. I think I still have parts of it in a box somewhere.

Like my sci-fi-fi builds but L O V E reality based space models. I have a 1/144 scale shuttle just begging to be built!
