Frakin BSG Reboot Build!
« on: May 04, 2017, 11:51:00 am »
Hey gang,
finally got around to posting again. This time its the Moebius Battlestar Galactica!
I've been really wanting to do this one for a while now. I started binge watching the series and getting some info together like the high res images created by Zoic.
I followed some other amazing builds from a few years ago like Marko Osterholz http://www.rust2rust.com/bsg.php. To get inspired and add lots of detail. Now Moebius makes great kits but at this scale some things are lacking.
The first thing was to cut into the top of the hull body where the "ribs" are to make the plating look more authentic. This took a long time and lots of patience. Its not perfect but it'll do for now. Looks better before I think.

I then started adding detail. This is also time consuming but I find it relaxing and enjoyable. Something about just having the freedom to put things wherever and not following any template. As Bob Ross might say "Just happy little greebles!" here and there. Lots more to do so may be a while before another update, hope you like it.

Thanks Phil!
Well not a big update but I kept going with the greebles and finished the top of hull body.

I then decided to move on to the "head". I was going to try to keep the rib details and just do away with the lame armor plating on the sides but why make it easy when I can to get rid of all of the details and redo the it all myself?

nice start on this kit. I started to do the same thing on one a few years ago but stalled after just doing the head. I should pick it up again one of these days. I also started the Pegasus but this also stalled. Maybe your build will be the catalyst I need to restart mine

Nice to see another of these started. I've got one in the que  after I finish up the last of my resin kits. Hopefully you'll be starting back up on her again when I get mine rolling.

Possibly, I put it on hold as I'm waiting for some supplies to come in. In the meantime I started working on the Klingon Vor'cha. I'll get to posting some of what I'm doing with that one soon. Then I'll get back to Galactica.

Dam! Its been over a year since I updated this. Its hard to find time to do modeling and even harder to take the time and post what you've been up to. I suck at both. Anyway here is what I've done since last time I posted.

Well I left off taking off some detail on the "head" and undercutting the plate armor. I liked doing the under cutting so much that I started doing it all over the ship even on the bottom were no one is probably going to see it. Whatever, it was fun actually and starting getting better at it. I've been using some small "grinding" tools I got from Harbor Freight for a few bucks (love that place).

I then went to work on the landing bay pod housing areas? Added more detailing to make it look more interesting.

I then started assembly the engines and the bays to the upper hull

Then I got bored and made this.

Love Bandai kits

I went back to work on the "alligator head". As you can see from my earlier posts I like to do detail lots and lots of detailing. I really need help. Anyway, I took off all the kit details from the head and decided that I can do better. Sure why not? So I added some aluminum tubing to the interior for two reasons. 1) I wanted the "thruster tubes" (?) to be actual tubes and 2) the head walls had become so thin I needed to add support or they might break or creck

The I started replacing the "rails" the armor plating goes on with brass bars. Lots of brass bars. Lots and lots ....well you get the picture. How many you ask? Oh only 26. That have to bent and cut to fit the head on both side. Great idea right? heh :o

Well it dont look too pretty right now but we'll see how things turn out in the end whens she is all painted.

Thats all for now.

That is really great work. I only wish this kit were bigger.
