Hi, Everyone!

For those who have worked or are working on the classic AMT / ERTL / Round 2 1:650 18-inch TOS Enterprise, it is accepted that the raised rings and three "dimples" found on the lower saucer part are incorrect.  The dimples need to be filled in and the rings need to be sanded away.

However, if one wants to scribe the three correctly-sized rings into the plastic, what measurements should be used?

I went ahead and took measurements from the Polar Lights / Round 2 1:1000 TOS Enterprise lower saucer and converted them up to the AMT / ERTL / Round 2 1:650 kit.  Here are the numbers:

Polar Lights / Round 2 1:1000 TOS Enterprise:
  • Lower Saucer Diameter = 12.5 cm (4.92126 inches)
  • Inner-Most Ring Radius = 2.1 cm (0.826772 inches)
  • Middle Ring Radius = 2.6 cm (1.02362 inches)
  • Outer-Most Ring Radius = 3 cm (1.1811 inches)

AMT / ERTL / Round 2 1:650 TOS Enterprise:
  • Lower Saucer Diameter = 20 cm (7.87402 inches) ==> 60% difference from 1:1000 kit version
  • Inner-Most Ring Radius = 3.36 cm (1.322835 inches)
  • Middle Ring Radius = 4.16 cm (1.637795 inches)
  • Outer-Most Ring Radius = 4.8 cm (1.88976 inches)

With these numbers, one can use a compass cutter and scribe the rings onto the 1:650 lower saucer using the 1:1000 kit as a reference.

I hope this is helpful.
