1/1400 Enterprise D Paint Mask suggestions??
« on: May 19, 2017, 09:43:28 pm »
Hi everyone,

So, I'm working on a 1/1400 Enterprise D and made the mistake of purchasing paint masks from ebay.  I'm not sure if they are aztek dummy or someone else.  They are incredibly difficult to work with - very heavy tact, incorrectly sized, no transfer tape, and leave a terrible residue.  Anyone else share this experience?  They are made on a brown heavy vinyl.

Anyway, they're a wash.  Looking at the DLM masks now.  Anyone have any success with these?  If only Orbital Drydock had masks for the D, best quality masks I've used. :-(

I used Aztek Dummy on a Miranda and loved them.  I don't have experience with any others out there.  A key to easy lift, at least with that thin vinyl, was to have them go down on a matte surface.  Primer, base/predominant color (matte), then masks.  I have had problem with residue if applied directly to plastic.

I've just started to lay down the decals provided with the clear d kit and I'm not impressed... Way too much blue... Just doesn't look right. And very, very fragile.

So I've ordered a masking set from DLM. Should be here in 2-3 weeks...

I've never used masks before so hoping these will give me the results I need.

I've decided to do this when I finally get around to my D builds (probable at least a year from now)-

I'm going to use the aztec pattern that's already molded into the plastic :)
Unless someone confirms it's horribly wrong or something.
