What a mess this has become. It's like watching a train wreck about to happen in slow motion, and being powerless to stop it. But you're right Starsiege, it does explain some things. Now it's clear why the Kelvin timeline movies couldn't be tied into the Prime universe, excepting Prime Spock that is. Lawyers. I may end up watching Discovery, but only because I may be able to save money by cutting the cable cord and going all streaming including CBS All Access.

I feel the same way. I just wish CBS had bought out the rights/script to Axanar and used it as the basis for a new series instead of squashing it.
