Putting decals ... on top of other decals ...
« on: October 25, 2017, 09:40:45 am »
Hey everyone.

A question for those who have much more experience with decals than I.

On my Romulan D7, the instructions call for putting some decals on top of other decals. See image.

I've never attempted anything like this. My current plan is to sandwich the decals between Future, which I was going to do anyway,
and then put on the "overlapping" decal, followed by another later of Future.

I know there have been a few builds on the forum with azteking + registry decals, so what is a good procedure for this?
Any suggestions / warnings are appreciated!

I do exactly like you are planning. First decal then clear coat
then second decal and final clear coat.

I've been able to skip clear coats between decals - the 1:1000 Refit Enterprise and Reliant wallpaper pretty much require you to put the markings over the wallpaper. I just waited for the decals to "set" before putting the markings on over them. A gloss clear coat might help with adhesion and preventing silvering overall, if that's a concern.

I'm with Lynn.  The first time I put decals over decals, I was nervous, but it went fine.  I haven't ever had to put an intermediate gloss coat.

Decals will adhere pretty well to decals.  Just get the underlayer decals all nice and dried first.

Yeah you don't need to clear between the decals I do it all the time, just make sure the first set of decals is good and dry and make sure when your putting the second decal on you don't get to much water on the first one and you'll be fine.
