Degobah diorama
« on: January 05, 2018, 11:26:15 am »
Here's my first attempt at a diorama. Still a long way to go!
Don't mind the messy desk! Keep your attention inside the blue borders, haha!

Haven't had much bench time lately, but managed a few hours the other day...

Never been much interested in making a diorama, but this really looks cool....  and I'm assuming you're having fun with it?

When you get it just the way you want it, you're more than welcome to make my front yard look the same....   :b

Thanks, ImWolf! I am having a blast, learning all the way. My first attempt at a diorama, but certainly not the last.

Almost done! Just some finer details then some decent pictures!
On the 3rd and 4th pictures I tried to use some cotton sheeting for a foggy effect and am not too pleased with it. Does anyone have a better idea for some creeping fog?

I would explore the idea of using foggy/misty glass around the diorama, combined with some LED's from the model, and removing the cotton entirely.

One aspect of modeling I didn't really note until I started looking around online and here of course, was the truly artistic qualities some folks have.... building not just the model out of a box but making alterations and giving it a personal touch.... and of course scratch building as you have done here. This build is something you should be proud of for sure!!!

After I looked at your finished photos I suddenly realized I wasn't really looking at your X-Wing at all and just checking out the scene you somehow (without an instruction sheet) created around it....   Very cool.

At the risk of cluttering your page here.....  check out this eye candy....

This guy builds old warships exceptionally well.... and most of the time displays the ship "on the water". Like your build, sometimes I find my eye paying more attention to the surroundings than the included model.

That's a good idea Decoman, Thanks! I wonder if I could maybe use some frosted plexiglass and cut to a Cloud-like shape. Hmmm....?

Thanks Wolf, it means a lot to me!! I had seen those galleries before, he is incredible! I have an HMS King George V on the shelf and I will definitely be using his galleries for inspiration, techniques, ideas etc.

This is looking quite sweet.  The diorama tells a story that a typical display cannot.
"I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey, and reminds us to cherish every moment... because they'll never come again."
