Wave's new 1:72 VF-4 Lighning III from Macross Flashback
« on: March 25, 2018, 11:12:20 pm »
The legendary VF-4, which saw only a brief moment of animation at the tail end of the Macross Flashback music video, has been a highly sought-after subject. There have been several sold exclusively at the Wonder Festival events in Chiba, Japan. But this is the first time we're seeing it in Styrene. Wave is releasing the VF-4 Lightning III this month! This has been delayed twice already, originally supposed to be on sale in January. Today I've received a message from my retailer that they have received their shipment! I can expect to see this in the mail sometime real soon, probably in the next couple of days.

Somewhat reminiscent of the P-38 Lightning, this fighter's design features twin boom nacelles. This fighter is extremely cool-looking, however in battroid form it doesn't look so cool. This will be a non-transforming model kit.

I received the kit last night! Tonight I plan to take photos and do an unboxing video. Here are some observations:

  • This is mostly a snap kit.
  • Wings are a mostly a solid piece, but there is a bottom section that fits in underneath. No clear parts for the nav lights.
  • The flaps on the back afterburners are positionable.
  • There are optional parts to have the landing gear bay doors closed if you don't want to pose it in flight.
  • Pilot's display console is a single part.
  • As far as a stand goes, you're on your own. Curious if it might fit on a Hasegawa Macross stand, however clumsily that might be.
  • There are optional parts for closed or open air intakes. There's also a choice of side vernier thruster nozzles for the engine nacelles.

Very excited to get this kit! I preordered this kit months ago and after it being delayed twice, I now finally have it.

I've added photos of the runners to my Tumblr modeling feed.

It's about 6200 yen, but I got mine for about 5000 since I preordered it. As with any other anime-related kit, Hobby Search, Amiami, or HLJ should have one for you.
