1/350 TOS registry with weathering decals
« on: June 04, 2018, 01:49:10 pm »
i dont know what keeps happening to this post...
anyway i have orbital drydocks paint masks and i was wondering if anyone has used the weathering decals on top of registry numbers that have been painted on. the cause of this slight confusion is in the instruction sheet for the weathering decals is says to apply the weathering before the registry (which seems strange) so has anyone used the weathering decals in conjunction with orbital drydocks paint masks for the registry and if so how did it look?

thanks

I would think their reasoning for that is the registry and markings would be re-painted more often then the entire ship.  Thus you would have a weathered hull with "fresh" registry paint job....  just a theory as I don't have any experience with the weather decal.  Would caution you to make sure to seal that before masking over the decal ;)

The whole point of using paint masks for registries is the not get that bordered, bubbly decals look. So why cover your nicely painted mask work with giant, halftoned, bubbly decals? Get some chalk pastels, grind them down, and dry brush them on for weathering. Its not hard and you can remove them with a wet cloth if you dont like them or make a mistake.
