Second Try at Reliant 1:537 kit - paint question
« on: July 22, 2018, 07:32:20 am »
Hi everyone -

I'm on my second attempt to build a realistic looking Reliant model.  The last one I attempted looked like a toy.  It's because I painted it white, and with the aztec decals, it looked really lame.  I'm looking for some suggestions on what shade to paint the ship, so that the Aztecs blend in better - and if you suggest maybe misting the model over to tie in some of the highly contrasty, and cartoony colors that it calls for.  I'm talking about the deep yellow bits that are outlined in red.

The last model I tried, I'm going to get George Takei to sign the hull and maybe auction it off.  He's doing a charity event for my non-profit.  He's a great guy!

This is kinda tricky.  Reliant actually was white.  If your model ended up looking toylike, maybe you just got it too white.  On your next build you could try to mix in a tiny bit of neutral grey to dull the white down.  You could also use a very dark primer and simply add white layers until you get the shade you want.
