Long term Enterprise A refit
« on: December 22, 2018, 05:18:37 am »
I started this project about 9 years ago and then put it on the back burner.

This year I have decided to finish it. It will be fully lit and employs interference paints on the surface of the white basecoat.

Anyway a few progress photos for you to enjoy.

And a cruel close up of the docking port. This text is tiny though so I'm pretty pleased!

Hoping to get a bit more done on it today. Might even try to get the lighting up and running before finishing it off completely.

this looks fantastic!

Can you say a little more about your aztek scheme?

Hi thanks for the compliment.

The aztec is done using aztec dummy masks. The basecoat is a matt white overall to which I aztec'ed with a gold/green taxidermy interference paint.

The whole scheme was then covered in custom cut friskets and sprayed again with alclad iridescent laquers. First in red/green and then blue/violet.

The overall scheme is very very subtle but I think works very well to not be 'in your face' with colour but it gives interest at certain angles.

First lighting test after a major pita getting the saucer on (so many wires to solder together and stuff into the neck whilst trying to simultainiously attach the two together, I broke the pegs so had to make new ones from brass rod). Anyway not bad so far. Still a fair bit to do including fitting the nav deflector but at least she in one piece now.

Just beautiful.  Those shots with the lights spreading out over the saucer.  So nice.

Yes that was the reason I raised the bridge a tad originally to allow the LEDs to work like spotlights and illuminate the saucer. I like the effect.

Nav deflector in place.

Will take some lit shots with it soon. Just working on more paintwork and decals at the mo.

Thanks Shawn. Yes pretty pleased. I painted that 9 years ago! Will be nice to get a lit photo of it. Maybe in amber and blue.
