WOAH!  She's a beauty!  The lighting is awesome.  When did you build this one?  And, is the aztec painted on?

Thanks! This Big "E" was started in May 2005 and completed in January 2006.This was my fist lighting attempt. The flasher board is the federation flasher kit from DLM and all of the rest of the lighting is from single LEDs.The circuits are built from scratch. This was also the first run of the refit from Polar Lights,so no aztec decals at that time. All of the aztecs were airbrushed from enamels and masked with photo frisket film and blue tape. The famous saucer aztec pattern was transferred from the kit instructions and the rest of the patterns ad hocked from old photos of the original.
At the time this was researched ,I was looking at Paul Olsen's web page for suggestions about the colors.I opted not to use pearl colors because of the expense and lack of experience with those types of paints. The contrast was achieved with a flat white base coat and a slightly off white gloss over coat. There is no clear coat except for the dull clear brushed only on the decals. The shuttle bay was omitted because of the 24 gauge wire used and the numerous harnesses. The deflector can be removed to service the central circuit board.Originally, the whole system was powered by two 9 volt batteries and one four cell AAA pack(for the flashers). The system was later modified for DC power because of the high amperage draw.(Battery power only lasted 15 minutes, tops!)
The lights are divided into three super circuits comprising of the saucer, secondary hull and flashers. It was done this way to accommodate the battery driven system but is now not necessary for DC power.I still like the separate circuits just for effect! ;)
